ABOUT POUND PETS, INC.

Established in 2012

We are a 501c3 no-kill animal rescue based in Granite City, Illinois. We are dedicated to finding homes for the abandoned, abused and forgotten animals in our community.  We offer pet food through our Community Outreach Program and offer low costs spay and neuter clinics 4 times a year.  We also initiated a TNR program in 2022. So far 42 feral cats have been altered, vaccinated, microchipped and returned to their caretakers. That is a lot of litters that will be avoided this kitten season in our community and we've just begun.

PET OF THE WEEK  COCO

Looking for a Running or Hiking Buddy?

Meet Coco!
Coco has a big heart and a big energy level to match! She tries very hard to be the best girl that she can, but she will need someone dedicated to help her along the path of being a good girl. She is a high energy girl who would not do well as a couch potato. She would love an owner who is looking for an active companion that they can hike, run, and continue to train.

Coco has been spending time with the staff and trainers at Benny’s Bed and Biscuits to help refine her skills and set her up for success in her new home. She is given daily outlets to stimulate her both physically and mentally, including puzzle toys for her meals, leash walking, basic obedience, and supervised play with other dogs. Coco would do best where she could continue to have this sort of daily enrichment. She has been shown to get along with most male dogs of all energy levels, she plays appropriately, if a bit rough, but is not pushy with dogs who are on the mellower side. She has been a bit selective of other female dogs. Some of the basic obedience and manners behaviors that Coco has been working on are:

• Sitting and staying • Sitting politely for petting • Sitting and waiting for her food dish to be set down • Coming when called • Not pulling on the leash while walking • No jumping up when excited • Stayin on a matt or dog bed
• Sleeping in a crate • Lying down (although she does still need a bit of help with a good lure for this one)

The trainers at Benny’s are happy to go over all of this with her new owners, as well as offer a free follow up private lesson once she has settled into her new home so that she is set up for long term success with all that she has learned.
